Ontario To Look Into Regulated Online Sports Betting

By December 19, 2017 No Comments

Canada’s most populous province will finally get to enjoy better and regulated online sports betting in the future. Tony Bitonti, the spokesperson for Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), announced that OLG will include new products that enable more betting options with a larger choice of events including major North American and international sports. In particular, Bitoni wants to see live in-game betting to open up for players in Ontario.

How will players be protected with the launch of regulated online sports betting?

OLG is aware that there are risks involved by opening up sports betting activities which players can make wagers on in the comfort of their home. Ontario’s Finance Minister, Charles Sousa, stated that they are looking at expanding consumer activities while using modernisation strategies to protect players. The current situation is that many betting activities occur unregulated and minors are easily exposed to this. With a fully regulated market by making online sports betting legal, players are better protected, especially from underage gambling, increasing the overall level of responsible gaming.

When is the go-live date for this project?

While Ontario is certainly looking into increasing online sports betting presence in the province, there’s still no solid timetable yet for the official launch. The OLG is just starting to search for a service provider to take on this project. However, it’s safe to say that Ontario will be following the footsteps of its sister provinces, Quebec and British Columbia, where regulated online gambling is already in place.

Where can Canadians find sports betting online?

Canadians can enjoy online sports betting at reputable online gambling service providers like Betway where you can bet on live games and get exciting wins. So what are you waiting for? Register an account now and let the thrills begin!
